Moonie Skin

Behind the brand

Why made in Ireland matters

4 min read

“Made in Ireland” is printed on every Moonie box, and it would be easy to read it as sentiment — a shamrock in small type. It isn't. Where skincare is made shapes how it's formulated, how it's regulated, how fresh it arrives and what it costs the planet on the way. Here's what those three words actually buy you.

Weather is a formulation teacher

Ireland hands you four seasons before lunch: Atlantic wind, sideways rain, central heating, the occasional shock of sun. Skin here lives in a permanent stress test of the moisture barrier — which makes it the perfect place to formulate for one. It's why every Moonie formula is barrier-first: cleanse without stripping (Lunar Cleanse Balm), treat without burning (Moonlit Renewal Serum), moisturise like you mean it (Emerald Night Cream). Skincare that keeps its promises on the Irish coast will keep them anywhere. (If your own barrier is mid-rebellion, start here.)

EU regulation, by default

Skincare made in Ireland is made under the EU Cosmetics Regulation — arguably the strictest cosmetic framework in the world. Over 1,300 substances are banned outright, every product needs an independent safety assessment before sale, and animal testing has been illegal here since 2013 — not as a brand promise, but as law. When we say cruelty-free and vegan, EU law is standing behind the sentence.

Skincare that keeps its promises on the Irish coast will keep them anywhere.

Small batches, honest freshness

Actives degrade. Antioxidants like vitamin E and green tea, delicate oils like rosehip in our Golden Hour Facial Oil — they are all at their best in the months after blending, not years. Producing in small batches, close to home, means what lands on your doorstep was made recently, not warehoused across an ocean. It also means production never outruns demand — no pallets of expiring stock, no landfill quietly absorbing the excess.

Short miles, small footprint

A typical skincare product crosses the world twice before it reaches a bathroom shelf — ingredients one way, finished goods the other. Ours are blended and bottled here and dispatched from our own studio, tracked door to door. Fewer miles, fewer middlemen, recyclable packaging: sustainability that's structural rather than seasonal.

Skin in the game

Mostly, though, “made in Ireland” means proximity. We make what we sell, so nothing ships until it's right — and when you email us, you reach the people who blended the batch, not a distributor three time zones away. Small isn't a limitation. For skincare, it's quality control.

That's the whole idea, anyway — three honest steps, made carefully, close to home. If it resonates, you can read our story or meet the collection. The moon on the label is Irish too.
